The Alternative School of Economics was invited by Arts Catalyst to work on artist-led inquiries in Poole, Dorset investigating the complex relationships between environmental change such as flooding, pollution and species loss and their impact on local culture, wellbeing and ecology.
We led a workshop with experts, members of the local community, active organisations, groups and individuals in Poole Harbour. We began with identifying major industries, economies and eco-systems and how they might connect. We also considered the importance of personal experience, anecdotes and shared histories of living in and around Poole Harbour and how these effect our understanding of the area and its economic and ecological future. After a walk along the Harbour testing water and air quality, we ended the workshop with writing excersizes, creating a series of statements, questions and instructions to challenge each other and implement change.
